Fun Food Ordering Now Open Until September 26

Welcome back to the returning Dorothy Lynas families and a big welcome to all the new students.  Our first Fun Food Day is Thursday, October 4 and ordering is now open through Wednesday, September 26.

For those of you that are new to the school, Fun Food Days is the schools biggest fund raiser, raising over $20,000 each school year.  We are fortunate to be able to offer: pizza, sushi, hot dogs, pasta, salads, quesadillas, smoothies and more to the students.  Fun Food Day volunteers help provide hot lunches on most Thursdays throughout the school year and frozen yogurt a couple times a month on Fridays.

We could not have Fun Food Days for the students without our wonderful volunteers.  Many of our volunteers from last year are no longer at Dorothy Lynas or have work commitments this year.  Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays & Thursday for about 1.5 hours and on Fridays for about 30 minutes during school hours.  Even if you can only volunteer once a term (3 times a year), it makes a big difference.  If we cannot get enough volunteers, we may have to discontinue the Fun Food Days.

We are also looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to join the Fun Food Days Committee.  The role of the Volunteer Coordinator is mainly to oversee our online system and make sure we have enough volunteers to cover all of the shifts each week.  This can be done from home anytime.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lisa Hammermeister at nevillebl@shaw.ca.

Thank you and don’t forget to order lunch for this term at the link below.

4. We Need You – Our School offers a great number of programs and activities that enable our school to be the great place it is for our children and our families. From Hot Lunch to our amazing Annual Carnival and so much in between including the critical role of our Class Reps, our school is supported by a great volunteer spirit.  We need your help in fulfilling a variety of volunteer positions to ensure we can still offer critical programs and keep our Community informed and engaged in all that we have come to expect and enjoy at Dorothy Lynas.  We simply can’t do this without your help.  This year we have had a number of long time volunteers move on (either away from Vancouver or because their kids are in high school as of this year), so we need a new team of volunteers to support our School.  The more volunteers, the less the amount of time and energy for every volunteer, so as the saying goes…the more the merrier. Please sign up to volunteer for a position of your interest either by e-mailing us, signing up on the sign-up sheets in the front foyer or by coming to our first PAC meeting.

Thank you!

The PAC would like to extend it’s sincerest appreciation of everyone that was involved in this year’s Spring Carnival!

The Volunteers – from Set Up to Take Down and everything in between, without the amazing group of volunteers, the Carnival simply would not have been possible.  The Carnival was another example of the wonderful spirit of community that exists at Dorothy Lynas and that was best exemplified by the over 100 volunteers who gave of their time and energy Thank You!

The School Staff & Administration – for supporting the Carnival from its planning to the big day itself!  Special thank you to Principal Todd, Vice Principal Wheatley, Mrs. Barnett and Miss Harin for assisting in various ways on Carnival Day!

Our Community Sponsors – we are fortunate to have a number of great sponsors who show their support time and time again for our great School. This year’s Carnival sponsors were:

The Cooperators – Colin Melnyk Agencies
Milk2Go provided by Nesters
Carina Organics
Moja Coffee
Local Lift Juice Bar
The Modern Pantry

We encourage our Dorothy Lynas community to support these fine local businesses who graciously support our School!

The Carnival Planning Committee – we were extremely fortunate this year to have had an incredible group of volunteers who led the Carnival Planning effort this year.  In record time (with many thanks to past Carnival leadership), this Committee selflessly gave of their time and their expertise to make the Carnival a reality.  This year’s Carnival Planning Committee included:

Jennifer Cram
Eliza Mui
Chris Gaydon
Katie Gaydon
Rosa Romero
Amanda Webster

Volunteers Needed for the Spring Carnival

It takes a village!

Our Grade 4/5 planning committee has done an amazing job organizing this fun day for our school. It takes a n amount of time and resources to pull off the Spring Carnival, and they need our help.  Our call for volunteers for the class assigned stations did not generate the  support we need.  Sadly, if we don’t get more volunteer commitment, some of the rides and booths will need to be cancelled.  We ask that everyone – parents, grandparents, siblings in high school, give just one hour to make the event the huge success it can be and the amazing day our kids look forward to every year.

The following  rides require more volunteers by Thursday, or we will be forced to cancel them.  Please sign up today!

Cake Walk Donations Welcome!

Calling all Bakers!

The Cake Walk is one of the most popular activities each year at the Spring Carnival.  Please help us make this booth the success it always is by donating a cake (or cupcakes).  Not a baker?  Place an order with your local bakery.

Please sign up to let us know your donation is coming.

Baked goods can be dropped off at the school on Friday between 3pm and 5pm or on Saturday before 11am.

Thank you for your support!

Carnival is 6 days away and we need bottles!

If you have been to a Dorothy Lynas Carnival before, you know the excitement that surrounds the Adult Bottle Table.  To make this booth happen, we need your bottles – wine, beer, soap…anything in bottle form is accepted.  Please submit your donations into the school office no later than Wednesday.

What is the Adult Bottle Table anyway?

Probably the most addictive booth of the Carnival and most certainly the place where you can find most parents at any given time.  Buy a ticket and take your chance at winning a bottle of fish oil or a 40 oz of Vodka.

Save the Date! Carnival is on June 2nd

Our Dorothy Lynas Spring Carnival needs YOU to volunteer your time.

The success of the Carnival relies on volunteers! As we are very close to carnival time, and were quite late getting organized this year so are under a bit of a time crunch, we are assigning each class a station to help ensure that we get the volunteers that we need to run this amazing Carnival that the kids love so much. There are 3 timeslots at each station (12pm to 1pm, 1pm to 2pm and 2pm to 3pm) that will need to be filled by 1 or 2 people each.

We also NEED TO HAVE a couple of current certified First Aiders who will be on site from 12-3 to administer First Aid if need be. These 2 volunteer spots are included on SignUp so please signup if you will be at the Carnival and are certified and willing to provide this service.

If you are not able to volunteer, please consider helping in other ways – sign up to bring a cake for the Cake Walk, or bring bottles for the Adult Bottle table (a huge hit with the parents each year!).  Cakes can be dropped off at the school on Friday June 1st between 3pm and 5pm or on Saturday June 2nd before 11am. Bottles for the Adult Bottle table can be dropped off at the office any time before the Carnival.

Please don’t put off what you can do today and go right to the sign in below and sign up to do your part for our amazing school community. We really need to populate this SignUp as quickly as we can.
