iGirl and iGuy Workshops – May 2, 2014

On the May Professional Development Day (May 2nd), PAC will be running two workshops (one for girls, one for boys) for students in Grades 4 to 7 (ages 9-12).

Review the information below carefully and follow the links to register your 9-12 year old boy or girl!

Registration is limited to 30 students per workshop. Please note that these workshops are open to Dorothy Lynas students only. The cost to participate will be $25/student, and payment must be received at the time of registration in order to confirm your child’s spot.

If there is more interest than available spots for one or both workshops, an ordered waitlist will be created and maintained. Any students who cannot be accommodated in the May 2nd workshops will have registration priority the next time these workshops are offered.

iGirl (presented by Saleema Noon & Team)

  • Date: Friday May 2nd
  • Time: 11am to 4pm
  • Location:  Parkgate Community Centre

iGirl is a straight-to-the-point, lighthearted, empowerment workshop that prepares 9-12 year old girls to make smart decisions in even the toughest situations. In a style that’s relevant to pre-teens, renowned sexual health education Saleema Noon and her team take the role of big sister, giving your daughter the power to successfully navigate the changes galloping into their young life.

Topics included in this 5 hour workshop:

  • i am my own BFF – celebrate your strengths and feel great about your unique self
  • i think my body’s a beauty – magazine bodies are make-believe. We’ll help you see how all of us are gorgeous in our own way
  • i expect respect – stand up to bullying and peer pressure in a way that works using – you guessed it – “i” statements
  • i get the ‘net’ – Facebook, sexting and safety online – we’ve got you covered
  • i have healthy relationships – friends, family and [sigh] dating someday – let’s make sure you know what you want and deserve

iGuy (presented by Saleema Noon & Team)

  • Date:  Friday May 2nd
  • Time:  11am to 4pm
  • Location:  Parkgate Library

iGuy is a straight-to-the-point, lighthearted empowerment workshop that prepares 9-12 year old boys to make smart decisions in even the toughest situations. We’ll challenge society’s definition of masculinity, unmask our secret identity, blow off some steam (in a healthy way), tackle online safety, and help build relationships we can feel proud of. In a style that makes sense to guys, Saleema Noon’s team takes the role of older brother, giving your son the skills and information needed to ace his teenage years.

Topics included in this 5 hour workshop:

  • i don’t need to be Superman – a superhero takes many forms. Let’s talk about what it really means to be a guy, kryptonite and all
  • i am not my biceps – what you see in a video game isn’t real life. Real power comes from within, and has nothing to do with muscles
  • i express myself – newsflash: guys have feelings too! Let’s learn how to express them in a healthy way
  • i get and give respect – assertiveness isn’t weakness, and confidence isn’t arrogance. To deal with conflict in a way that works we need to know the difference
  • i get the ‘net’ – from the G-rated to the X-rated and everything in between, smart decisions online put the ‘social’ back in “social media’
  • i have healthy relationships – it’s true – honest communication, respecting boundaries, and understanding consent make us better friends, brothers, boyfriends and sons.
