New PAC Initiatives: Food Drive & Field Trip Fund

The PAC is pleased to announce our first Allergy Friendly Food Drive Challenge from Nov 21-Dec 2, 2016. Food Allergy Canada and Canadian race car driver, Alex Tagliani, are promoting food allergy awareness and safety this holiday season by calling on schools to help collect allergy-friendly food items to support local food banks/charitable organizations in our school communities across the country.

By participating in this challenge, our school will also be entered for a chance to win a grand prize of Fifteen Apple iPad Air 2- 16GB and a meet-and-greet with Alex Tagliani at our school! While the prize is a nice incentive, our primary motive for joining is the opportunity not only to increase awareness of allergy issues but also to provide food for people in need in our community.

Here’s how it will work: We will be designating each day of the challenge to one of the top priority food allergens and will ask students to bring in a product that does NOT contain that allergen. Another new PAC initiative is the PAC Field Trip Fund which was recently announced in the DL November Newsletter.

The PAC has set aside a fund of $20,000 which will be divided evenly between each division. The fund is meant to alleviate financial pressures for parents & staff with regard to field trip fees and to help finance transportation assistance if required. Parents will not be charged for field trips while there are still funds in the classroom account to cover costs. Please note this fund does not apply to Outdoor School, Big House or Transition Programs.

As a pilot program, our ideal outcome is that the Field Trip Fund is received positively by both staff and parents in its inaugural year so that we are able to offer it in subsequent years. A big thank you to our DL families for your generous financial donations which have allowed us to create this fund. To our 100+ DL Parents for attending our first ever Pub Night & supporting our ticket sales, raffles and auction, to our local retail and professional community for their generous donations and to our energetic, super-multi-tasking Events & Social Committee Chair, Crystal Gerling – the PAC thanks you for all your support in bringing together our DL Community and raising funds for the benefit of our staff and students. We hope you all had an enjoyable evening.
