The planting work has been completed on Zarah’s Sunrise Garden, located below the toboggan hill. It truly is a work of love, inspired by the wonderful children’s book Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. Miss Rumphius is the story of Alice Rumphius and her desire to do three things: live by the sea, go to amazing places and make the world a more beautiful place.
Special thanks go to Sally Hocking for the beautiful design; it captures the spirit and essence of Zarah. She would have loved this garden, the hidden tree fort, the cedar stepping stones and the ocean of crocus’ that will bloom each spring.
The final stage of the garden will be creating mosaic stepping stones using the drawings of Dorothy Lynas students. Local mosaic artist Glen will work with students to complete the mosaics over the next few months.
This garden would not have been possible without the help of the school, the district and all the volunteers. To see the community come together in this way, to create Zarah’s Sunrise Garden, a place of beauty, was amazing and very healing for all involved.
It is not just the children who are waiting for Spring to see the crocus’ and the garden bloom but all of us that have worked together on this garden.
