International Walk to School Week takes place next week, October 7th-11th. This year Dorothy Lynas has registered to take part. Our hope is to encourage physical activity, build community and reduce the traffic at the front of our school.
As a way to encourage our students to participate we’ve printed off a colouring page with a written portion for a plan of action. We would love to display as many of these forms as we can around the PAC display board in the front hall. Please drop your finished sheet in the iWalk box at the front office.
We would also like to encourage the students to get active and reduce their emissions by holding a friendly classroom to classroom competition.
The Golden Scooter (our iWalk Trophy) will be presented to the class which best increases or improves their ability to get to school actively.
*This scooter is not for riding on.
This week, we noted how many kids were driven to school, which has given us a per classroom percentage of how many kids are using their bodies to move themselves to school.
During iWalk week we will hand out tokens (small paper shapes) to each child who walks, carpools, parks away from the school and walks in, takes the bus, rides a bike etc… These tokens will be dropped into the container on the iWalk Poster in your students classroom. The Tokens can be picked up from a volunteer near the front entrance to the school.
**We encourage you to get creative and find ways to get to school without driving up to the front steps or down one of our congested side streets. If you must drive, consider arranging to meet a group and walk in, make a plan to carpool with another family, or just park a 5-10 minute walk away. Your school and your body will thank you for it.**
